Nikola Tesla & O₃ History: The First Ozone Generator

The Ozonation Process

Ozonation (O₃) is the process of infusing ozone into substances such as oils or water to alter their chemical structure and therapeutic properties.

While ozone was discovered by Christian Friedrich Schönbein in 1840, the advancement of ozonation technology became closely associated with Nikola Tesla, who developed one of the first ozone generators.

TL;DR: The History of Nikola Tesla & Ozonation

  • The Invention: In the late 1800s, genius inventor Nikola Tesla patented one of the first ozone generators and founded the Tesla Ozone Co.

  • The Transformation: Tesla discovered that bubbling O₃ through olive oil for weeks created a stable, therapeutic ozonide (C₁₀H₁₈O₃)

  • The "Miracle" Era: Marketed as Glycozone, it was sold in pharmacies and used by doctors to treat over 114 different ailments, including heart disease.

  • The Shift: In the 1930s and 40s, the AMA and FDA moved away from ozone therapy, shifting it from mainstream medicine to the world of alternative wellness.

  • The Sacred Difference: We honor this history by using industrial-grade machinery (not small home devices) to ensure the deep saturation and potency Tesla originally envisioned.

Nikola Tesla: The Father of the Ozone Generator

Nikola Tesla (1856–1943), the Serbian-American genius behind alternating current (AC) and wireless transmission, was also a pioneer in medical technology.

His research laid the groundwork for X-rays, radar, and even the electron microscope.

Shortly after patenting his ozone generator, Tesla founded the Tesla Ozone Co. and began a unique experiment: ozonating olive oil.

How Tesla Made Ozonated Oil

Tesla’s original process was slow and meticulous, often taking weeks to complete:

  • The Method: His generator slowly pushed pure O₃ through olive oil within a specific electromagnetic environment.

  • The Reaction: This catalytic reaction essentially "burned" the oil, fundamentally changing its chemical composition.

  • The Result: This process formed a stable, bioactive compound in the olive oil known as C₁₀H₁₈O₃ (Ozonide).

"Glycozone" & "Hydrozone": The Early Miracle Cures

Tesla began marketing his ozonated olive oil under the name Glycozone. He also developed a way to ozonate water, which was sold under the name Hydrozone.

In the early 20th century, these products were sold in pharmacies and marketed to doctors as treatments for nearly every ailment imaginable, including heart conditions.

1. The Rise and Fall of Ozone Medicine

  • The Golden Era: Ozonated products gained a reputation as a "miracle cure." Leading American physicians even published a book claiming ozone was effective for 114 different diseases.

  • The Turning Point (1933): The medical community began to doubt these broad claims. The American Medical Association (AMA) officially removed ozone from its list of approved medical treatments. Despite the skepticism, Tesla's work proved that O₃ could be "trapped" in a biological carrier, preserving its energy for topical use.

  • The Crackdown (1940s): The FDA began seizing ozone generators, labeling them as dangerous to human health. This marked the end of ozone’s mainstream era in the United States, though research continued globally.

Why Our Ozonated Olive Oil is Different

1. Industrial Grade Precision: Unlike many products made with small, home-use devices, our Ozonated Olive Oils are prepared using a high-capacity industrial ozonation machine. This ensures deep saturation and a stable, high-potency final product.

2. Artisan Created: Every batch is crafted by Jessy, my sister, the scientific heart of Sacred. She is the creator of both our Ozonated Oils and our Orgonite Devices.

Formulas: Oxygen: O₂ ; Ozone: O₃ ; Ozonide Formula: C₁₀H₁₈O₃
